Reflection
Theoretical Framework of Educational Technology” is
another unit of this course. During this course I was exposed to the different
theorist and know learn how to incorporate their theory in a technology era
classroom. “Educational Technology Standards (ISTE NETS –
Teachers & Students)” as the name suggest deals with the standards of the
teacher and student. As a result this unit aids in the development of my
understand about the principles and theoretical framework underling the use of
technology in the classroom. Hence this unit acts like a code of this to
educate teacher about their task as it relates to planning and delivery of
these lesson as they incorporate technology in the classroom.
Technology allows discovery learning
to take place and it grabs the attention of young minds. In the 21st century
technology plays an imperative role in the in students learning. In the Course
Educational Technology has allowed me to be equipped with the knowledge and
with diverse way of incorporating it in my classroom. Children are naturally drawn to technology and I believe that guided use
of technology in schools will produce better students and better citizens by
extension. Technology is the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods
and services, and in the organization of human activities. Technology is present
in almost every profession therefore I have to prepare my students for such
professions as this course had provided me with the foundation to start such
mission. “Designing Effective Web-based Instructional Support Tools” was my one of
the units I was enthused about it was during this unit that I had the
experience of being exposed to different tools that can be incorporated in the
curriculum so as to enhance students learning experience. In addition I have also learn about different tools that
be manipulate in the classroom such as Wikispce , Webquest , Interactive
PowerPoint , Podcast and Google Doc.
Wikispace is a website that allows students
to complete task by engaging in collaborative learning. The Wikspace allows
students to work in groups online. In addition this website also allows the
teacher to monitor the process and contribution made by each student. Therefore as a teacher it is very important
to allow students to be known that they can do teamwork on the internet. In
addition to a teacher can also start the group add students and monitor their
progress and contribution to the topic being posted.
One of the tools I learned about was the Webquest.
The webquest is a task that students complete using the internet. In this task
the instruction and material are given to them by the teacher in order to
complete the given task. The Websquest involves the students engaging in
discovery learning as they will have to read the information provide and then
use the instruction given to complete the task. In addition the webquest can
act as a direct lesson plan for student to do constructive work in the absence
of a teacher.
The Interactive PowerPoint was a tool that
was used in one of my presentation. In this presentation I was expect to use
the Assure model with the incorporation of technology. In the process of
completing my lesson I had used an interactive Power point where students look
at picture watch video and actively participate in the lesson. In addition an
interactive Power Point can also have interactive games like Jeopardy for an
assessment. The interactive PowerPoint allows students to be engaged as the
watch the PowerPoint. It also gives teacher the opportunity to move away from
tradition power point where student juts read the slides on the power point.
Podcast is an audio recoding that can be
transferred or disseminated over the internet. In class we learn about ways in
which this tool can be utilized in the classroom. For example in case where the
teacher is absent from class she can record herself and include other
voices the students direct instruction
as it relation to what to do in class for a designated topics. The students
will listen to this audio recording attentively and do follow the instruction
as if the teacher was having a direct dialogue.
Google Doc is another tool that was
introduced to the class. Google Doc is basically as social network that allows
person to communicate with others despite their geographical location. In the classroom
Google Doc can also be utilized of the teacher is a teacher is absent from
class and needs to communicate with her students. For Example a teacher having
a conference in one parish will not have to be absent from her class she can
simply utilize Google Doc and have a conference and still have class with her
student. In addition Google Doc also helps a teacher to cater for all her students
in the classroom. In addition this helps to break geographical barriers as it
allow teacher and students to communicate anywhere in the world. In addition a
teacher can also utilize Google Doc if a student in her class is absent she can
video chat on Google Doc about the
lesson and the rest of the class. Hence this child will not feel left out as he
/she was not physically in the classroom.
As a future educator, it is imperative to increase my
knowledge about technology and keep current with new innovations in order to
provide the most successful learning environment for my students. Therefore I
will be able integrate technology in my classroom in order to optimize my
students learning and also to give them a good learning experience. Technology
in my classroom will also adhere to the different type of learners, as well as
broaden my students mind and allowing them to think outside the box. The constant use
of technology is necessary to engage my students in a proactive and interesting
learning, thus allowing them to create and take ownership of their learning. In
addition this course has taught me about the fundamental aspect of planning, design, and production of
instructional multimedia tools that can
be incorported in the classroom. In order to achieve this they were many
instance where we practice and use
equipment in a cooperative learning environment in a micro-teaching situations.
Theses has on activity has facilitate the development of collaborative skills,
hands-on skills and attitudinal skills required to effectievy integrate
technology teaching. As a result this course has allow me to be engage in authentic learning experiences
within and beyond the walls of the classroom by incorporating technology
